Piñata is a mix of horror, gore, thriller, family drama, culture with a dash of fever dream. I loved the history and culture that was brought into this book and love when that can be mixed with horror. There were a few pacing issues for me as I felt some chapters could have been shortened to allow more of a grand finale. The ending did feel a bit rushed but I did not mind how everything wrapped up. There were a lot more gory scenes then I expected but that definitely added to my enjoyment. Characters were well fleshed out and overall, I would recommend this to any horror reader!

“Sometimes it’s better not to think too hard. You will understand when you are older. Life in Aurea is like a pond at sunrise, serene and reflecting golden light. You’ll break it if you throw rocks in the water.”

Wow, Damsel is amazing. I flew through this book! All of the characters were written perfectly, the plot was fresh, the atmosphere perfect. This is a great example of a book that does not have wasted space, every chapter adds to the story and helps build to one of the best book endings I have read in awhile. I also teared up a few times, which is always a plus. And we get a Netflix adaptation?? Perfection.

This story was great! It has a lot of action and interesting moments that is really helping the story come together. I am a little troubled at the events that happened, and am eager to see what happens next.

Once again, I love this series, and the characters that are created within this story. With that being said, this so far is my least favorite installment of the series. Now, seeing that I still gave it a 4 out of 5 stars, I gave the first and second book a 5 out of 5. The main reason I did not like this as much as the others is because the characters I love were barely in here. With that being said, I understand why this book was important, and I was very shocked about this information that was learned in this book. Also, I have some new favorite characters because of this third book. I am really excited for the 4th book to come out, and as always, I can not wait to continue with this story!

I don’t normally read adult mystery/thrillers like this but I was given an ARC when this book for came out and now I finally got to it. This was an okay read, but a bit disappointing in the plot twist division because I saw 95% of it coming. I did enjoy the actual storyline and thought the characters were ok but all together kinda crappy people. All in all this was just okay, I would say it’s a good beginning book for people just getting into adult mystery/thriller.

I’m not sure what went wrong in this one for me but I just could not get into it. I feel like there was not enough of the humorous Murderbot that we got in the last 2 books, and I didn’t care about any of the new characters that were in this. I’m also kind of getting tired of the same formula that Murderbot keeps doing, jump on a ship and deal with problems. I’m really not sure if I’m going to continue with this series now, I’m at least going to take a break from the series and maybe come back to it later, because this one was just disappointing to me.

I was really ready to give this a 3 star rating because of how long it took to get somewhere, but once it got there it was no going back! I enjoyed this book a lot and there was a go amount of plot twist and character development! Just ordered the 3rd book and can't wait to see how this series ends!

Imagine walking into your favorite convenient store (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) and seeing everything you have ever wanted. Over time however, local businesses start to close and weird things within your community start happening; people going missing, employees of your favorite store start acting strange, and the owner of the company starts to take over every aspect of your life and where you live. Well if that intrigues you enough, then PLEASE pick up this book! I am finding that Bentley Little is one of my favorite horror authors. His books are so damn creepy that at many times while reading this book, I had to look around my room to make sure no one was there. This book has been on my TBR for ages, and I am kicking myself for not getting to it sooner. I was completely hooked pretty much 98% of the time during this story, however I will say that there were just a few parts that I think could have been left out but other than that *chefs kiss*. This has characters arcs and development that I would argue are rivaled to that of Stephen King (he has a blurb on the cover so I mean King himself could argue this point). I loved the characters and was genuinely scared for them and wanting the best for them, even the side characters whom I cried for some of them! If you are a horror fan or even just a thriller fan who does not mind a little bit of unsettled moments will adore this book, and as you pick it up just remember....the store is watching!

3.8

Why did I not like this?? I was really confused throughout the whole thing, and I am not sure if that has to do with being fuzzy on what happened in the second book or not. I actually found this kind of dull and not full of as much action as I would have liked. I was happy to see some characters again, and see them interact with each other. I will say that following along with the audiobook and the book was the best choice for me. If I would not have done this, I honestly do not think I would have gotten through this book. I am very sad to see this series have a disappointing ending, but I did somewhat enjoy it, which is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but hey, that is why we have them!
