If this book had followed along the path the prologue was going, I would have loved it. That's just me. I like scary, creepy, not afraid of gore stories. This ended up reading like a cozy romance which is just not for me.
Bad Things Happened in This Room is the epitome of the unreliable narrator. It's disfragmented, but needs to be to get the story out in a way that you feel you are experiencing just what the protagonist is. I felt so much reading this book as a survivor of domestic /emotional abuse. You just honestly won't know where the story is going and I very much enjoyed that aspect.
This book was a true horror book, to me. Monsters don't scare me, humans and what can happen to their own minds? Very scary.
Highly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. I do.hope this book gets more attention. It's one of the better anthologies I have read in quite some time, with a couple stories truly creeping me out. Such talented writers that I had not ever heard of! I do hope to read more by each one of them. I intend to tell all my friends and horror book groups about this book.
This was a new author for me. This story was a bit predictable, a bit all over the place. I pretty well knew where it was headed as soon as Tyler was introduced. Not a bad novel, but just barely kept me interested, sadly.
Wow. This book was brilliant, but very disturbing. The ending was not expected and shocked me to the core. Just shows the many ways grief can destroy.
I'm sorry. I'm a big folk horror lover. This fell into folk horror category, I suppose. I have read some strange story lines in my time, and usually even the strangest comes together somehow to make it believable in THAT world, while you're in it. This book however, was just stupid from the get go...it could have salvaged itself with some explanations that made sense for the story's lore . The people of the town were just annoying as all get out, and not because they would not divulge any information, because that's what small towns do. The main character was supposed to be a journalist, but yet she asked no questions and just came up with her own weird conclusions. I don't know....I just did not like this story at all, or maybe the way it was told and so much left out.
I absolutely loved this book. A historical horror with themes of womanhood in turmoil. The author writes brilliantly and I could not put this book down. Right now it stands as my favorite book of the year.
Such a good story! That ending! Now I'm going to read all her books.
