It. Was. Terribly. Boring.

Three-quarters of this book could have been omitted, and I would have had the same feelings. I don't even know what this is about, all the characters are bland, I don't like anyone literally, each one is practically unlikable due to their negativity (literally negative vibrations).

Throughout the entire book, I didn't even know WHO THE MAIN LOVE INTEREST WAS because these characters lack any trace of personality.

This is one of the worst books of the year due to the lack of plot, although the author can write something decently (only Ana Huang takes first place, which says a lot about the lack of plot and craftsmanship).

I would like to write a longer review here, as I usually do, but I can't even comment on this book because I don't know what happened in it.

Art? They prepared for it longer than what we actually got in paragraphs.

Relationships? The characters have no depth, they are mean, stupid, and childish.

Plot? What is that? I could rewrite this book in 30 pages instead of 320.

Cause and effect: What's that? I have a feeling it was hastily written by 10 people's random ideas that were glued together and loosely connected, so NOTHING HERE IS CONNECTED. THERE ARE NO REAL CONSEQUENCES. THE CHARACTERS THEMSELVES FORGET WHAT HAPPENED RECENTLY.

Usually, my main problem with books is that they have too many events that are described superficially, making them very shallow, but here it's the complete opposite – almost nothing happens in 320 pages, and half of the plotlines are abandoned for no reason.

This is probably my first and last book by this author. I do not recommend it, spend your money on something better.

3/4 tej książki mogłoby nie być i miałabym takie same odczucia. Nie wiem w zasadzie o czym to jest, wszyscy bohaterowie są mdli, nie lubię dosłownie nikogo, każdy jest praktycznie nie do polubienia przez swoją negatywność (dosłownie negative vibrations).

Przez całą książkę nie wiedziałam nawet KTO JEST GŁÓWNYM LOVE INTEREST, bo ci bohaterowie nie mają w sobie za grosz osobowości.

To jedna z najgorszych książek w tym roku przez brak fabuły, bo autorka potrafi coś tam poprawnie napisać (pierwsze miejsce ma jedynie Ana Huang, więc to już dużo mówi o braku fabuły i kunsztu).

Chciałabym tutaj napisać dłuższą recenzję, tak jak normalnie robię, ale nie jestem w stanie nawet skomentować tej książki, bo nie wiem co się w niej działo.

Sztuka? Dłużej się do niej przygotowywali niż faktycznie dostaliśmy z niej akapitów.

Relacje? Bohaterowie nie mają charakteru, są podli, głupi i dziecinni.

Fabuła? Co to? Bo ja bym była w stanie napisać rewriting tej książki w 30 stronach a nie w 320.

Mam wrażenie, że było to pisane na szybko na kolanie z jakichs pomysłów 10 osób, które zostały ze sobą posklejane i luźno połączone przez co NIC SIĘ TUTAJ ZE SOBA NIE ŁĄCZY. tak jak normalnie moim głównym problemem z książkami jest to, że mają za dużo wydarzeń, które są opisywane pobieżnie przez co są bardzo spłycone, tak tutaj jest kompletna odwrotność - nie dzieje się prawie nic przez 320 stron, a połowa wątków jest porzucona, bo tak.

To chyba moja pierwsza i ostatnia książka tej autorki. Nie polecam, wydajcie pieniądze na coś lepszego.

Grey was my favorite character in the first book, so I was actually excited when I opened the book and saw that we practically have his perspective the whole time, BUT: the book was dreadfully boring. For the first 200 pages, I thought I would fall asleep (which may partly be due to my habits), but it doesn't change the fact that I drifted off twice. It might also be related to the fact that I had already gotten used to Rhen and Harper for nearly 500 pages, who knew how to add fuel to the fire and drive the action, whereas here we only got two chapters from their perspective (a prologue from Harper's perspective and an epilogue from Rhen's perspective).

What happened to the retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" from the first book? Well, apparently nothing, because it clearly ended, and now we're dealing at most with a retelling of ACOTAR.

Besides, Lia Mara and Grey are probably the most boring couple ever. There's nothing better than two completely passive characters with a lack of action. Well, in my opinion, they make great supporting characters, and being the main protagonists should have been left to the more dynamic pair of Rhen and Harper.

And tbh, I couldn't understand at all how the characters who were okay in the first book suddenly underwent a complete 180-degree change. Rhen, man, what happened to you? What bit you? Harper, where is your warrior spirit from the first book? Grey, I'm disappointed in you too.

I could summarize the whole plot in one sentence: Rhen is searching for Grey, Grey is avoiding Rhen, Harper is quietly living her life somewhere, and Lia Mara just exists.

If it weren't for the fact that "mama raised no quitter," I probably wouldn't have finished this book, ngl. I hope that at least the conclusion of the trilogy will be okay because if not, I'm officially super disappointed.

Grey był w 1 części moim ulubionym bohaterem, więc nawet się ucieszyłam, kiedy otworzyłam książkę i zobaczyłam, że mamy praktycznie cały czas jego perspektywę, ALE: książka była potwornie nudna. Przez pierwsze 200 stron myślałam, że zasnę (co może być częściowo winą moich nawyków), co nie zmienia faktu, że 2 razy odpłynęłam. Może to być również związane z faktem, że zdążyłam się już przyzwyczaić przez prawie 500 stron do Rhena i Harper, którzy chociaż potrafili dolać oliwy do ognia i pociągnąć akcję, a tutaj dostaliśmy całe 2 rozdziały z ich perspektywy (prolog z perspektywy Harper i epilog z perspektywy Rhena).

Co się stało z retellingiem "Pięknej i Bestii" z pierwszego tomu? No w sumie nic, bo najwyraźniej się skończył i mamy teraz do czynienia co najwyżej z retellingiem ACOTARU.

Poza tym - Lia Mara i Grey są chyba najnudniejszą parą ever. Nie ma niczego lepszego od dwóch kompletnie pasywnych charakterów z jednoczesnym brakiem akcji. No, moim zdaniem są świetnymi bohaterami drugoplanowymi, a bycie main postaciami powinni zostawić bardziej żywiołowej parce Rhena i Harper.

No i tbh totalnie nie potrafiłam zrozumieć jakim cudem postacie, które były okej w 1 tomie nagle przeszły zmianę o 180 stopni. Rhen - mordo, co w ciebie wstąpiło? Co cię ugryzło? Harper, gdzie twoja wojowniczość z 1 tomu? Grey, na tobie też się zawiodłam.

Całą fabułę mogłabym podsumować w jednym zdaniu: Rhen szuka Greya, Grey unika Rhena, Harper gdzieś tam sobie żyje po cichu, a Lia Mara po prostu jest.

Gdyby nie to, że mama raised no quitter to pewnie bym tej książki nie skończyła ngl. Mam nadzieję, że chociaż zakończenie trylogii będzie spoko, bo jeśli nie - to jestem oficjalnie super rozczarowana.

- After 120 pages, it started to be a bit more enjoyable to read.

- The flashbacks bored me and disconnected me from the action too much.

- The plot was incredibly strange and felt hastily written. I missed more action related to the actual court case, the main character's work, etc. Overall, I think the book would have fulfilled its potential if it had been more elaborated with around 150/200 additional pages.

- The enemies to lovers dynamic felt like it lasted only about 3 chapters, ngl.

Overall, it was an untapped potential. It's a decent book if you have nothing else to do and have 3 hours to spare for reading, but it's not the kind of book I would reach for a second time.

It was just boring, and the book lacked development in almost every aspect, from the romantic storyline to the filming scenes.

If I were to describe it in a few sentences, I would simply say: Nepobabies with acting talent, playing the roles of their parents in a movie, but each scene is described from two sentences to several paragraphs, and we have more descriptions of the inside of the camper or the buffet than actual scenes on set.

A huge plus for me, however, was that the book actually showed how hatred works - a few conversations were enough for hatred to turn into indifference, and then into more positive relationships. So I'm glad that there wasn't an artificially prolonged hatred created out of thin air for 200 pages, where character A was a jerk a few years ago and people don't change, so A is just pretending to have changed but is still a jerk, and character B can keep saying they hate A even though there are no real reasons. That wasn't the case here, so that's mainly why it's rated 0.75 stars higher.

However, there's the same problem as with most books: the lack of development in most plotlines. I wouldn't mind 200/250 more pages about the process of creating the titular love scenes or the further development of the feelings between the characters. Despite the number of pages, though, the characters were quite well-drawn and actually presented themselves quite well.

Do I recommend it? If you're in the mood for an actor x actor trope, then maybe. It's a perfect book if you have plenty of free time and want to read something calmly.

Było po prostu nudnie, a książce brakowało rozwinięcia do w zasadzie każdego wątku od miłosnego po samo nagrywanie scen filmowych.

Jakbym miała ją opisać w kilku zdaniach, to powiedziałabym jedynie: Nepobabies, ale z talentem aktorskim, grają w filmie rodziców, ale każda scena jest opisana od dwóch zdań do kilku akapitów i w sumie więcej opisów mamy z wnętrza kampera albo przy bufecie niż faktycznie na planie.

Dla mnie ogromnym plusem było jednakże to, że w tej książce faktycznie zostało ukazane to, jak działa nienawiść - wystarczyło kilka rozmów i nienawiść przerodziła się w obojętność, a potem w te pozytywniejsze relacje. Także cieszę się bardzo, że nie było tutaj przedłużanej przez 200 stron nienawiści wyssanej z palca, bo przecież bohater A był bucem kilka lat temu, a ludzie się przecież nie zmieniają, więc A tylko udaje, że się zmienił, a dalej jest bucem, więc bohater B może dalej mówić, że nienawidzi A chociaż nie ma realnych powodów. Tutaj tego nie było, więc głównie za to jest 0,75 gwiazdki wyżej.

Jest tutaj jednakże ten sam problem, co z większością książek: brakuje rozwinięć większości wątków. Nie obraziłabym się za 200/250 stron więcej o procesie powstawania tytułowych love scenes albo o rozwinięciu się uczucia między bohaterami. Jak na taką ilość stron - chociaż bohaterowie byli dość rozrysowani i faktycznie prezentowali się dość dobrze.

Czy polecam? Jeśli macie fazę na opko aktor x aktor, to nawet tak. Taka idealna książka, jak masz dużo czasu wolnego i chcesz sobie coś spokojnie przeczytać.

Adeline is seriously stupid most of the time (especially when she can't shut up), this whole stalker is seriously messed up in a fucked-up way, and partially changes their approach from beginning to end.

I don't know what to say about this book tbh. I read it in the original language, and I would say it's like some dark Wattpad story. The author's style is pretty mediocre, I didn't like any of the characters, so even with that cliffhanger at the end - I would give zero fucks if anything bad happened to anyone. I didn't have a single moment when I was excited or waiting for something to happen; the characters were just boring and predictable. I missed descriptions of something other than just sex (from halfway through the book, basically every three pages had something related to sex). And before someone accuses me, yes, the author warned that there would be a lot of sex and heavy themes - please, it could have been done better. Right now, I feel like I watched some documentary about child trafficking from the early 2000s and in the meantime, read a fucked-up romance on Wattpad written by a 35-year-old mother who hasn't had sex in a long time and needed to vent online.

Do I recommend it? Honestly, no. There are much better books out there.

Did I have a good time? No.

Will I read the second part? Maybe someday. (Which says a lot about this book, considering I usually binge-read entire series on the same day).

Czy polecam? Szczerze, nie. Jest wiele lepszych książek.

It started off great, but the further I got into the story, the more I felt like the book transitioned from a pleasant, funny romance into erotica. If it weren't for the fact that the characters are fairly well-written, I wouldn't give it as many stars. The situations that occur here are funny, and I even chuckled at some descriptions and dialogues, but the number of sex scenes from the halfway point threw me off balance a bit because how much can one read about sex (it felt like the characters were having sex every chapter and thinking about sex in every scene).

Better than the previous one, but Lucy irritated me a bit.

The plus side is that there weren't as many cringe-worthy conversations with Olive.

The downsides: there are many, but I'll reiterate my issue from the previous part: TALK TO EACH OTHER HONESTLY. And authors, please stop writing characters as if they couldn't admit that they don't hate someone for 300 pages. Normal people often just need one conversation to stop hating someone because it's such a strong yet shallow feeling that is often based on rumours and unspoken words. Here, I would say the hatred ended around page 50, and then Lucy was just childish. (Tbh, I wouldn't even call it hatred, but rather strong prejudice or dislike.)

Adam's son is my favourite character, ngl. Cool kid.

I autorzy, proszę was, przestańcie pisać bohaterów tak jakby przez 300 stron nie potrafili przyznać, że kogoś już nie nienawidzą. Normalnym ludziom wystarczy często jedna rozmowa żeby przestać kogoś nienawidzić, bo to tak silne a jednocześnie tak liche uczucie, które jest często oparte na plotkach i niedomówieniach. Tutaj powiedziałabym, że nienawiść skończyła się koło 50 strony, a potem Lucy była po prostu dziecinna. (Tbh nie nazwałabym tego nawet nienawiścią tylko silnym uprzedzeniem albo niechęcią.)

The first 40% of the book is pain and suffering, and the rest is just sex. Throughout the whole book, I felt such immense second-hand embarrassment that I was almost certain that's it, I'm done.

1. Kelsey and JP are idiots. While in the first part, I didn't have major issues with them, here they've swapped brains with horny immature nuts.

2. In the first 40%, we have JP's balls on Kelsey's face (and their conversation about it in front of the poor driver, something HR should definitely know about, ngl) and my favorite scene - Kelsey jumped on JP and challenged him that he couldn't knock her down with just one finger. So what does JP do? He fucking knocks her down with his little FINGER. HIS LITTLE FINGER. L-I-T-T-L-E F-I-N-G-E-R. And mind you, a 27-year-old fell from a push of a finger. Pudzian wouldn't have achieved that, but JP certainly can.

Honestly, I miss the person I was before reading this shit.

Every 10 pages, I had to get up, walk around the room, so as not to scream at the ebook in the middle of the night, "JUST TALK, DAMMIT."

On another note: Ella Maise must be a hardcore millennial because I haven't heard such a dose of stiff dialogues interspersed with cringe-worthy texts that were supposed to give off a college slang vibe in a long time.

It gave me a strong "yo, dude, add me to your cool, wicked group where you guys listen to trap music, don't trip, be chill, and don't back down, you dig?" vibe. <- This passage could have been written either by Polish professors in 2021 or be a conversation between Lucy and Olive.

Besides the cringe-worthy texts that were thrown around here, I had the impression that someone got really bored during proofreading and cut out about 25% of the pages that were necessary to understand the whole fascinating story. Why do we find out about the first days of the relationship with Jason in just 2 paragraphs? That could have been the most interesting part, much more interesting than rescuing Olive from the café or going to the academic club. Why did the family's reaction happen practically at the end of the book? Didn't they read the newspapers? Didn't they have the internet? Were they living under a rock? That would have been much more interesting than forcibly inserting the storyline of some woman from Canada who didn't exist or XYZ scenes with Lucy, whose whole life apparently revolves around asking her friend about spicy scenes from her sex life or saying that Jameson (or whatever his name was) is not her boyfriend, but he has such a python that calling it a penis would be an insult to him (I'd like to trip out, dude).

Overall, I have the same problem with this book as I do with most of these romance novels with vector-style covers that went viral on TikTok lately: they're too short, most dilemmas could be solved with a 2-minute conversation, and they lack scenes that should actually be in them because they would further the plot or add depth to the characters and the fictional world.

I see potential that lacks full development: touching the grass, walking around universities to eavesdrop on real slang, and 200 more pages of the book.

PS: Yes, I know the book is from 2015, but please, even 8 years ago, nobody spoke like that. Those weren't the times of galaxy leggings, mint color, mustaches, and milords anymore. It was the era of insta baddies, heavy makeup, eyebrows too dark and sharp as a knife, and king kylie.

Co jakieś 10 stron musiałam wstawać, zrobić kółko po pokoju, żeby nie krzyczeć po nocy do ebooka "PO PROSTU POROZMAWIAJCIE, DO CHOLERY".

Z innej beczki: Ella Maise musi być mocnym millenialsem, bo takiej dawki sztywnych dialogów przeplatanych cringe'owymi tekstami, które miały dawać vibe slangu studenckiego, dawno nie słyszałam.

Dawało mi to mocnym "siemaneiro, ziomix, dodasz mnie do swojej czaderskiej, nikczemnej grupki, gdzie puszczacie sobie żurawia, nie świruj jarząbka, przypucuj się i nie pękaj, czaisz bazę?" <- fragment ten mógł zostać napisany zarówno przez polskich wykładowców w 2021 albo być konwersacją między Lucy a Olive.

Oprócz cringe'owych tekstów, które tutaj padały - miałam wrażenie, że komuś podczas korekty bardzo się nudziło, więc powycinał jakieś 25% stron, które były potrzebne do zrozumienia całej tej fascynującej lektury. Dlaczego o pierwszych dniach związku z Jasonem dowiadujemy się z 2 akapitów? Przecież to mogłaby być najciekawsza część, znacznie ciekawsza niż ratowanie Olive z kawiarni czy wyjście do klubu akademickiego. Dlaczego reakcja rodziny miała miejsce praktycznie pod koniec książki? Nie czytali gazet? Nie mieli internetu? Żyli pod kamieniem? Przecież to byłoby znacznie ciekawsze niż wepchnięty na siłę wątek jakiejś baby z Kanady, która nie istniała albo xyz scen z Lucy, której całe życie opiera się najwyraźniej na pytaniu przyjaciółki o pikantne sceny z jej życia seksualnego czy gadanie, że Jameson (czy jak mu tam było) nie jest jej chłopakiem, ale ma takiego pytona, że nazywanie go penisem to dla niego obraza (chciałabym świrować jarząbka, ziomixy).

Ogólnie mam z tą książką taki sam problem jak ostatnimi czasy z większością takich romansów z vectorowymi okładkami, które wybiły się na tiktoku - są za krótkie, większość dylematów dałoby się rozwiązać 2 minutami rozmowy i brakuje w nich scen, które faktycznie powinny się w niej znaleźć, bo prowadziłyby dalej fabułę czy dodałyby głębi charakterom i światu przedstawionemu.

Widzę potencjał, któremu do pełni rozwoju brakuje: dotknięcia trawy, przejścia się koło uniwersytetów żeby podsłuchać prawdziwego slangu i 200 stron książki więcej.

PS: tak wiem, że książka jest z 2015, ale pls, nawet 8 lat temu nikt tak nie mówił. To już nie były czasy getrów galaxy, koloru miętowego, wąsów i milordów, a wejście ery insta baddie, mocnych makijaży, brwi o kolor za ciemnych i ostrych jak nóż oraz king kylie.

Okay, I know that giving 4.4 stars is actually a lot for my reviewing standards. I'm aware of that, BUT it really wasn't bad.

Seeing all these one-star reviews and people giving up after the first 5/16% of the book, I thought I was in for something along the lines of Any Huang, but I was pleasantly surprised.

This time, BookTok didn't let me down.

During the first 20%, I did have to push through the author's specific style, where she divides tens of thousands of words into a few chapters that always end literally as the next one begins, and they are very detailed, but I didn't hate it. It was just peculiar.

What amuses me, though, is that there are one-star reviews here referring to plot inconsistencies or weird character relationships when they haven't even reached 1/4 of the book. What are you evaluating? The first scene that took up 7 chapters in the book and described an hour in the fictional world? Is that what you base your assessment of the plot and characters on?

As I said, the book is peculiar, so I can't understand that here.

Moreover, the characters weren't super stupid. Sure, they had their quirks, but I'd say they behaved better than 90% of romance novel characters.

The plot wasn't brilliant, but I didn't expect it to be. I've probably read at least 20 books that I could summarize similarly to this one, but I buy it, I read it, and I'll probably keep reading it. There's nothing wrong with repetition and relying on patterns.

The pace of the action was perfect in my opinion. Apart from two moments, I didn't feel like a quarter of the book was missing, so I didn't know what was going on, and the plot wasn't racing at the speed of a BMW driver at an intersection without turn signals.

In my opinion, it's one of the best-written romance novels, and trust me, I've read a lot of them lately. I don't know what these one-star reviewers were expecting (Mickiewicz among romance novels?), but the book serves its purpose.

EDIT: I've read the book that supposedly had its plot ripped off, and tbh, I wouldn't say so. There were a few similar things, but they were related to specific book tropes rather than the actual plot. It only reinforces my belief that many of these one-star reviews are from snowflakes. (The mentioned book is "The Favor" by Suzanne Wright)

Widząc tutaj masę recenzji na 1 gwiazdkę i poddawanie się po pierwszych 5/16% książki - myślałam że czeka mnie coś pokroju Any Huang, ale pozytywnie się zaskoczyłam.

Tym razem booktok mnie nie oszukał.

Przez pierwsze 20% faktycznie musiałam przebrnąć przez specyficzny styl autorki, która dzieli kilkanaście tysięcy słów na kilka rozdziałów, które kończą się zawsze dosłownie w momencie rozpoczynania się kolejnego i są bardzo szczegółowo opisane, ale i didn't hate it. Było po prostu specyficznie.

Śmieszy mnie natomiast to, że pojawiają się tutaj recki na jedną gwiazdkę, które odwołują się do jakichś nieścisłości fabularnych albo dziwnej relacji bohaterów, kiedy nie doszli nawet do 1/4 książki. Co ty oceniasz? Pierwszą scenę, która w książce zajęła 7 rozdziałów a opisana została godzina w świecie przedstawionym? Po tym oceniasz fabułę i bohaterów?

Tak jak mówiłam - książka jest specyficzna, więc akurat tutaj nie jestem w stanie tego zrozumieć.

Poza tym - bohaterowie nie byli super głupi. Jasne, mieli swoje odpały, ale powiedziałabym, że i tak zachowywali się lepiej niż 90% bohaterów smutów.

Fabuła - nie była jakaś genialna, ale w żadnym wypadku tego od niej nie wymagałam. Przeczytałam prawdopodobnie jakieś 20 książek minimum, które moglabym streścić w podobny sposób, co tę, ale kupuję to, czytam to i będę to pewnie czytać. Nie ma nic złego w powtarzalności i opieraniu się na schematach.

Prędkość akcji - imo była idealna. Nie miałam tutaj poczucia (oprócz 2 momentów), że z książka została wycięta 1/4 całości, więc nie wiedziałam o co chodziło, a fabuła nie zapierdalała z prędkością kierowcy BMW na skrzyżowaniu bez kierunkowskazów.

Moim zdaniem, jeden z najlepiej napisanych smutów, a, trust me, przeczytałam ich w ostatnim czasie dużo. Nie wiem czego ci 1-gwiazdkowcy tutaj oczekiwali (Mickiewicza wśród smutów?), ale książka spełnia swoje funkcje.

EDIT: Przeczytałam książkę, z której podobno została zerżnięta fabuła i tbh: nie powiedziałabym. Było kilka podobnych rzeczy, ale były to podobne rzeczy związane z poszczególnymi book tropes a nie z faktyczną fabułą.
