DNF around 30%. The author is very interest in giving credit to the murderer for not being the biggest possible scumbag, to the point of giving him a lot of grace and the victim a lot of scorn. Pass
I was geared up to REALLY shred this but the last 5% or so actually went a long way.
All I'll say: this is your average nice guy "why does she only date assholes when I've systematically murdered her enemies" thing, but gayer. The MC is sort of a psychopath. I'm not clear on how Evan is fine with that. Couldn't put it down despite my disbelief.
eta: the author liked my comment! I'll add that I actually remember this book quite fondly due to, uh, the most appropriate ending possible. Also, that's classy.
I'm having a REALLY hard time rating this because I absolutely loved it but, to be extremely basic, I just didn't feel good about the ending. Everything about the characters and the world and the atmosphere of the book was gripping and incredible, and the horrors very real. In a struggle between Order and Chaos, a Wild West-esque setting is a good ones, and here it seems relevant that Order and Chaos are basically both amoral forces of total destruction, chewing up the world between them. It's a fantastic setting. I just wanted more closure at the end, more of a payoff to all that wonderful buildup.
Perlstein obviously can’t have intended this trilogy to be an explainer for Trump—but damn if it doesn’t work like one.
Finishing all the stuff I got like 75% through but got distracted
These are such biotruths bullshit, I’m not sure why I stick with them
My least favorite Klune by a mile. Repetitive and in desperate need of editing. Look out for:
-Okay?
-Yeah. Yeah, [name].
-Pack, pack, pack
-My daddy said people were gonna give me shit
-Little tornado
-glassy pain
Etc.
I had high hopes, but I think I just cannot be cool with shifter romance that focuses so heavily on biological reactions/claiming/pack structure. Every book uses Alpha pack structure, which is Not a Thing, and telepathy and animal instincts and I’m over it.
Age gap also sorta weird here.
Sorry to TJ. Murmuration was much, much better, and Verania better than that.
