This was a 5-star read until the end. The end felt too rushed for my liking.
It was a surprisingly good book. I didn't expect that from the first few pages. But then the story got really interesting.
I liked how many different mysteries there are to discover in this story. Although some of them I foresaw of course. Like who are the real parents of Kaavi's youngest sister. But a lot of other things surprised me, so I had a really good time. I also believe that the suffocating atmosphere of high society in Sri Lanka, where appearances are paramount, added some unique character to the whole story.
Lately I'm getting tired of unreliable main characters. So I had some concerns about Amaya. But in the end, I think the author handled the whole situation very well and managed to create a really interesting and unique character. This is one of those books where you as the reader don't really like anyone. It's not my favorite format, and I guess I'm a little tired of it too, but somehow it all worked pretty well in this book.
I also liked the way this book was written. The main plot is interrupted by interrogation interviews with different characters. People reveal their true faces and the motives that drive them, and above all, they indicate more potential suspects. It was really fun, and the author did a really good job of capturing the unique personalities of each character.
It was quite an interesting story. It was unique enough to stand out from similar stories published in recent years.
