Who Would Like This Book:
If you love dark humor, unreliable narrators, and a good psychological mind-bender, Gillian Flynn delivers the goods in this twisted, super quick read. The story is sharp, witty, and delightfully unsettling - perfect for fans of her previous books or anyone craving a modern ghost story with snarky commentary and unexpected twists. Flynn crams plenty of intrigue and chills into just over 60 pages, making it ideal if you're in the mood for something you can read in one sitting and ponder for days.
Who May Not Like This Book:
If you’re hoping for a traditional ghost story or a deep-dive novel, you might be left wanting more. Some readers have found the ending abrupt and a little too ambiguous, and others felt there were too many twists packed into such a short story. Those who aren’t fans of explicit language or offbeat, morally gray characters might also find the tone jarring. And if you dislike open-ended conclusions or expect every thread tied up, this might not be your cup of tea.

Gillian Flynn's Edgar Award-winning homage to the classic ghost story, published for the first time as a standalone.
A canny young woman is struggling to survive by perpetrating various levels of mostly harmless fraud. On a rainy April morning, she is reading auras at Spiritual Palms when Susan Burke walks in. A keen observer of human behavior, our unnamed narrator immediately diagnoses beautiful, rich Susan as an unhappy woman eager to give her lovely life a drama injection. However, when the "psychic" visits the eerie Victorian home that has been the source of Susan's terror and grief, she realizes she may not have to pretend to believe in ghosts anymore. Miles, Susan's teenage stepson, doesn't help matters with his disturbing manner and grisly imagination. The three are soon locked in a chilling battle to discover where the evil truly lurks and what, if anything, can be done to escape it.
"The Grownup," which originally appeared as "What Do You Do?" in George R. R. Martin's Rogues anthology, proves once again that Gillian Flynn is one of the world's most original and skilled voices in fiction.

Really enjoyed this book, i didnt want it to end though thats the problem lol more pleaseeee
This book is a short read that left me unsatisfied. The unnamed narrator is a lifelong con artist who is plying her trade to trick people. One day she encounters a Susan, a woman who is fearful of her home and stepson. Over time, the narrator has experiences with at Susan's home that makes her start to believe that the supernatural may actually exist. At the end of the story, the narrator is left as confused about who and what to believe as the reader.
A fun homage to gothic ghost stories with Gillian Flynn's classic bad girls and rich prose.
I wasn't sure about this book in the opening pages, but this proved to be a psychological and very entertaining read. Gillian Flynn never disappoints.
eu gostei. eu acho que se ela fizesse um livro maior ia ficar cansativo e massante.
Great writing, great characters, great beginning. The middle started to get a little "meh" because it kind of dissolved all the creepy tension that had been building....But the non-ending is really what lost me. At least it was short.
