Who Would Like This Book:

This book is a darkly funny, satirical take on revenge and family dysfunction, complete with plenty of sharp wit and biting social commentary. If you appreciate an unapologetic anti-heroine, enjoy clever (if morally dubious) plotting, and love dry, sarcastic humor, this is for you. Fans of complex, flawed narrators and offbeat thrillers - think "Killing Eve" or "Gone Girl" - will find themselves right at home here. It's also perfect for those who like their crime novels with a healthy layer of dark comedy.

Who May Not Like This Book:

If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller, you might find yourself frustrated with the book's slower tempo and abundant introspection. Some readers found Grace, the main character, too insufferable or unrelatable - her arrogance and harsh opinions about others can grate, as can the frequent tangents and seemingly endless justifications. The length and detailed descriptions were a problem for those who prefer tighter, leaner stories, and some felt the social and political commentary was heavy-handed.

A wickedly entertaining, pitch-black comedy with an unforgettable (if polarizing) protagonist. You'll either love the twisted ride or be left wondering what all the hype's about.

From The Publisher:

A darkly humorous debut novel that follows a cunning antihero as she gets her revenge

When I think about what I actually did, I feel somewhat sad that nobody will ever know about the complex operation that I undertook. Getting away with it is highly preferable, of course, but perhaps when I'm long gone, someone will open an old safe and find this confession. The public would reel. After all, almost nobody else in the world can possibly understand how someone, by the tender age of 28, can have calmly killed six members of her family. And then happily got on with the rest of her life, never to regret a thing.

When Grace Bernard discovers her absentee millionaire father has rejected her dying mother's pleas for help, she vows revenge and coldly sets out to get her retribution-by killing them all, one by one. Compulsively readable, Bella Mackie's debut novel is driven by a captivating first-person narrator who talks of "self-care" and social media while calmly walking the reader through her increasingly baroque acts of murder. But then, Grace is imprisoned for a murder she didn't commit.

Outrageously funny, compulsive, and subversive, How to Kill Your Family is a wickedly dark romp about class, family, love . . . and murder.

I really wanted to like this book and part of me did although I didn’t like the main character at all. I couldn’t find any sympathy for her at all

Funny, dark and twisted, this is everything you want in a book. It's well written, off kilter but not in a way that you don't know what's going on. You're gonna love Grace getting her revenge.

I loved this book. The pacing was perfect and the overall story was fantastic. I hope the author writes more books as she is just my style! Dark and honest.

The book had it's moments but for the most part I wasn't a huge fan of it. Wasn't quite of the intense and snarky but dark read I thought it would be. Not really my cup of tea but wasn't a bad story either

The only good thing was the premise. Felt like a chore to read. Didn’t finish.

This was a super read with very dark humour (something I personally love). The plot itself had lots of twists (trying hard not to spoil it) but the ending seemed a little rushed... I think maybe less thought went into this part, but still enjoyable. Thanks for the good read.
