From The Publisher:
The Kaiju Preservation Society is John Scalzi's first standalone adventure since the conclusion of his New York Times bestselling Interdependency trilogy.
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls "an animal rights organization." Tom's team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on.
What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at least. In an alternate dimension, massive dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm, human-free world. They're the universe's largest and most dangerous panda and they're in trouble.
It's not just the Kaiju Preservation Society who have found their way to the alternate world. Others have, too. And their carelessness could cause millions back on our Earth to die.

Fun, light read- pretty much what I expected.
John Scalzi is extremely clever and he knows it. Still, you can't turn exposition into action just because your characters are walking around doing stuff while explaining the world.
This should have been a short story.

John Scalzi is my new favorite sci-fi writer. I loved this book. I didn't have clue what a Kaiju was !
The year is 2020, people are losing their jobs and our hero Jamie Gray is one of them. He takes up food delivery job to make ends meet. On one of the food delivery, Jamie meets old acquaintance, Tom Stevens. Tom offers Jamie a job which might solve all problems. Jamie doesn't hesitate to take up the job as Tom describes the organisation he works for as an ‘animal rights organisation’ and Jamie will have to do grunt work only. Little did Jamie know what "animals" are taken care of.
It was a great read. Entertaining, witty conversations and well written. Looking forward to read more from the same author.
P.S. I did watch "Pacific rim" after reading this. And yes I had not watched it before as I was a snob thinking it's not my type of movie. God... It was so so so my type of movie.
Happy Reading!!
