Who Would Like This Book:
If you love immersive, slow-burn sci-fi romance with heavy hurt/comfort vibes, Homebound will hit the spot. The gritty dystopian setting feels both lived-in and bleak, making the small moments of compassion between the human heroine, Gemma, and the truly alien hero, Simon, feel all the more powerful. Readers rave about the sweet caretaking dynamic, genuine emotional connection, and the tender romance that grows between two very different outsiders. If you're a fan of R. Lee Smith, enemies-to-lovers, or just want something different from the usual "blue alien" formula, this is a must-try - especially if you like a heroine who quietly does her best despite terrible circumstances.
Who May Not Like This Book:
Some readers struggled with the book’s bleak atmosphere and rough subject matter - including poverty, abuse, and violence. The worldbuilding is vivid but not always tidy, leaving questions unanswered. Editing issues (typos and awkward word choices) can pull you out of the story. The heroine’s naivete isn’t for everyone, and the romance pace feels glacial if you’re craving steam or fast plot twists. The ending is abrupt, leaving some desperate for an epilogue or more closure.

But there is one that isn't like them. Simon is damaged, starved, and wasting away in complete isolation. Touched by his loneliness, Gemma starts nursing him back to health, dismissing rumors that he's high-risk, ignoring the advice to let him croak.
Simon despises humans. His only goal is to get off this miserable planet fast, for he is hunted by a scientist obsessed with perfecting the human race. Simon's rare alien genes are just the ingredient that's missing for breakthrough research. Thanks to Gemma, for the first time in years he can escape.
And he will. He will…
As the hunt for Simon heats up, Gemma becomes an unintended target. Is she a fool to help him get away? And will he risk another captivity to protect her?

The storyline was fantastic. A tense story and the main character was different, not easy.
