Who Would Like This Book:

If you’re looking for a witty, light-hearted fantasy with a unique twist on the Cupid myth, this one’s a treat! Emelle (our lovable heroine) fumbles her way into the physical world, stuck on an island with three very different - and very swoon-worthy - fae dudes. Fans of slow burn romance, sassy heroines, and hilarious banter will love this book. If you enjoy other reverse harem series like Four Psychos or Curse of the Gods, you’ll likely find yourself right at home here.

Who May Not Like This Book:

If over-the-top inner monologues, cutesy nicknames, or less developed worldbuilding aren’t your jam, this might not hit the mark for you. Some readers found the writing style a bit too chatty (lots of telling instead of showing), didn’t connect with the characters, or felt the romance dragged without much payoff in Book 1. If you’re after a deep, complex plot or high steam right out the gate, you might want to look elsewhere.

A quirky, slow-burn reverse harem romp with plenty of laughs and heart. If you like fun fantasy romance with playful characters and don’t mind lots of banter, it’s worth checking out!

About:

Signs of Cupidity by Raven Kennedy is a fantasy reverse harem novel that follows Emelle, a cupid who is invisible and incorporeal, forced to spread love without experiencing it herself. The book explores Emelle's journey as she is accidentally pushed into a corporeal form, leading her to a new world inhabited by three attractive and suspicious Genfin males. The plot is described as unique, unexpected, and humorous, with a slow burn romance and a blend of fantasy and realism in the world-building. Readers praise the witty and sassy inner monologues of Emelle, as well as the dynamic interactions between the main characters.

Characters:

The characters include a relatable and humorous protagonist alongside three distinct male figures whose interactions create engaging dynamics, though some readers perceived them as lacking depth.

Writing/Prose:

The prose is characterized by humor and engaging dialogue, though it also tends toward excessive inner monologue that some readers found detracted from the overall experience.

Plot/Storyline:

The narrative centers around a Cupid who gains a physical form, exploring her interactions with three male companions while navigating romantic challenges in a fantasy setting.

Setting:

The story unfolds in a vibrant fantasy realm filled with unique magical beings, although some readers wished for more extensive world-building.

Pacing:

Pacing is a mix of slow burn romance with some rushed and slow sections, receiving varied responses but ultimately maintaining reader engagement.
Although, I’m still here enough to be utterly annoyed when the woman gets to her feet and leads Mr. Terrible-Pick-Up-Line to the dance floor. They don’t really dance, if I’m being honest. They just so...

Notes:

The story features a female main character (FMC) named Emelle who is a Cupid.
Emelle ends up corporeal and trapped on an island with three male companions called Genfins.
Each male character has a distinct personality: Ronak is serious, Sylred is kind, and Evert is flirty.
The series includes elements of fantasy and romance, particularly reverse harem dynamics.
The writing style is humor-filled and playful, with a lot of witty banter.
It's noted as a slow burn romance, with the FMC having comedic inner monologues throughout the book.
The book is the first in a trilogy, followed by novellas and spin-offs.
Some readers found the world-building and character depth lacking, while others appreciated the comedic tone.
The FMC has been praised for being relatable, funny, and likable despite her flaws.
There are many light-hearted humorous moments that contrast with the more serious themes of loneliness and love.

Has Romance?

The romance in the story is medium, focusing on slow build-up and character relationships rather than overt sexual content.

From The Publisher:

You'd think that basically being in charge of love would be an epic job, right? Wrong. Sure, I can blow some Lust into people's faces and watch the show, but I can't actually participate. It gets old, trust me. Same goes for love. I can pass it out like sugar-free lollipops at a dentist's office, but I can't get any love for myself. It totally sucks.

I used to consider myself a hopeless romantic, so why wouldn't I choose to become a cupid? Sounds like a good idea, right? Wrong again. They don't call us stupid cupids for nothing. I'm stuck in this never-ending afterlife where I'm invisible, lonely, and bitter as hell. And yeah, I'm probably responsible for some terrible matchmaking out there. Sorry, not sorry.

All my bad cupid'ing might be why I was exiled from the human realm. You can only do so much before the cupid bosses get all huffy. Unfortunately, my bitterness carried over into the new realm, and then I attacked a fae prince with Love Arrows. Accidentally. Okay, not accidentally. But hey, he deserved it. What I didn't expect was for him to retaliate and hit my ass with some crazy magic mojo strong enough to push me into the physical realm. Whoa.

That's right. This cupid just got a real body. And you know what that means...Now, it's my turn to get some. Love, I mean. Get your head out of the gutter. Wink, wink bitches.

Author's Note: This is a medium-burn reverse harem story. It includes explicit language and sexual situations. Intended for audiences 18 years and older. As this is a series, there will be a cliffhanger.

Worldbuilding:

In hindsight, we actually know a lot less about the world than I thought we did :D And to be very honest, it didn't matter. We knew enough to follow along, first in the human realm and then learning alongside our heroine in the fae realm. All scenes were well written and clear enough to immerse into the story fully.

Character development:

Our heroine Cupid number ML (thousand and fifty) is a tad sick and tired of spreading love and lust and not getting any herself. She has nobody to talk to as she is very... incorporeal, living behind the Veil. Things change for her rather drastically when she gets reassigned to the fae realm. From the start till 3/4 of the story, I loved her. I mean, her inner dialogue was funny. It had me facepalming and laughing out loud so often. Until it got a bit much :( We know a bit of her past, what she has done during the years of being a cupid, we know she longs for love and touch, but apart from that, she feels a bit superficial.

Onwards to the men, Ronak, Evert and Sylred, our banished fae men. I like them, they're diverse, not easily persuaded by a nice looking female (or at least... not all of them), and they are focused on their survival.

The characters in this book feel decently real and believable. Though I feel like we've only scratched the barest surface. I wanted to know a lot more about everyone, but hey, I guess that's why it's a series :)

Pacing and flow:

I read the book in one sitting, so I would say that the pacing and the flow were good. There was enough action to keep me entertained (alas, not that kind of action) and a good balance with all the talking to keep the story moving forward smoothly.

The book:

The book is well written with no (noticeable) errors. While it does say it's a slow burn, it's like.... suuuuuper slow burn. We had one kiss, ladies and gentlemen!

The book has 256 pages, spread over 29 chapters, told from our heroine's point of view.

Final thoughts:

It started fun and very entertaining, but around the 3/4 mark, it got a bit too much on the inner dialogue and too little on the romance... but, who knows, it might get better in the next instalment, which I, of course, will read :D

It wasn't well written. It's an extreme slow burn - as in no burn for a "why choose" novel. I didn't care about any of the characters.
