It's like Pirates of the Caribbean adventure meets Game of Thrones sex and violence. There's a lot of sexual assault. A lot of sex. Plenty of violence. Very much a rollercoaster in the second half. One chapter has some super spicy scenes, then a chapter or two later and they're dismembering captives.

Opens with a gripping and tragic start to Bennet's life as a teenager. Then jumps forward to her in her early twenties. It got a little tedious in the middle with Bennet's plans with Cutler. 100 pages of foreplay for the most part. Not that I had picked this up (solely) for the sex, I was definitely wanting an adventurous plot. But there are several chapters of Cutler and Bennet working out whatever it is they're doing that will not scratch the 'adventurous' itch.

There were times the horniness was eye-rolling. Nearly drowned, hung off the back of a boat by your wrists, after having been in a fist fight, and you want some D? Nah, she should have welcomed sleep and could deal with that 'ache between her legs' in the morning. Likewise after enduring weeks of on and off torture.

Those complaints aside, I did find it a good read, and the pace really picks up in the second half. Very arrrgh matey.

Definitely be aware of the content warnings. It's a pirate story that doesn't really sugar coat the darker stuff.

I enjoyed the story, but apparently not as much as everyone else did.
