Who Would Like This Book:
If you're a fan of historical romance with unconventional leads and a little bit of Wild West flair, you'll love this one! Expect a brash, sharp-shooting American heroine and a brooding, emotionally scarred Scottish hero who bicker, banter, and generate plenty of chemistry as they clash over land - and secrets. The story is packed with action, hidden identities, witty dialogue, and a vividly painted cast of secondary characters. Perfect for readers who like their love stories with a side of grit, drama, and a unique twist on the traditional Highland romance.
Who May Not Like This Book:
If you prefer your historical heroines a bit more traditional, or you like your romances low on cursing, this book might not be your cup of tea. Some readers found the heroine too modern and the language jarringly anachronistic for the period. The pacing can drag with lengthy prose, and the secret-keeping goes on a bit too long, which frustrated some. If spot-on historical accuracy is a must for you, or you dislike storylines built around lots of deception and delayed reveals, this might be a sticking point.

Right out the gate this specific trope isn't really my favorite. It makes me feel like I'm watching a car crash happening, something that is horrible and tramatic but I just can't peel my eyes away from it. This wasn't my favorite in the series but it was pretty good. A little unrealistic with the amount of cursing going on but doable. Truly it was the lying and a very specific secret that made me take away a star.
I actually wish that we could get a little more insight with some of the other couples in this book but alas
About the Author:
Kerrigan Byrne has done many things to pay the bills, from law enforcement to belly dance instructor. Now she's finally able to have the career she'd decided upon at thirteen when she announced to her very skeptical family that she was going to "grow up to be a romance novelist." Whether she's writing about Celtic Druids, Victorian bad boys, or brash Irish FBI Agents, Kerrigan uses her borderline-obsessive passion for history, her extensive Celtic ancestry, and her love of Shakespeare in almost every story.
Kerrigan lives with her husband on the coast of Washington State's Olympic Peninsula in a Victorian-era town almost frozen in time. When she's not writing, you might find her on the beach with her dogs, lounging at a local vineyard or brewery, or buying things she doesn't need at antique stores.
Her novels with St. Martin's Press include the Victorian Rebels series (starting with The Highwayman) and Devil You Know series (which begins with How To Love A Duke in Ten Days).
