Who Would Like This Book:
This book is a winning mix of historical adventure, hilarious mishaps, and a plucky heroine trying to fit her finishing school skills into a very un-ladylike frontier life. Jane's journey from Philadelphia socialite to scrappy survivor in the wilds of Washington Territory makes for both heartfelt and fun reading. It's perfect for middle grade and young adult readers who love stories about girls finding their independence, history buffs, and anyone looking for a not-too-heavy, feel-good escape. Fans of strong (if sometimes awkward) main characters and coming-of-age adventures will adore it!
Who May Not Like This Book:
Some adult readers might find the book a bit light or geared too much toward a younger audience, with its straightforward plot and less complex character arcs. If you're hoping for detailed medical drama or deep dives into frontier survival skills, you may feel a bit let down. People who prefer weighty historical fiction or dislike stories featuring social etiquette and romance might also want to look elsewhere.

1855. The unknown wilds of the Pacific Northwest-a land not yet tamed, and certainly not fitting for a proper young lady! Yet that's just where Miss Jane Peck finds herself. After a tumultuous childhood on the wrong side of Philadelphia high society, Jane is trying to put aside her reckless ways and be accepted as a proper young lady. And so when handsome William Baldt proposes, she joyfully accepts and prepares to join him in a world away from her home in Washington Territory. But Miss Hepplewhite' s straitlaced finishing school was hardly preparation for the treacherous months at sea it takes to get there, the haunting loss she'll face on the way, or the colorful characters and crude life that await her on the frontier.

Boston Jane: An Adventure, is one of the first Historical Fiction stories that I find myself sincerely enjoying. Jane rather annoyed me in the beginning of the book, but bear with her, I promise it gets much better. In the beginning, I didn't like Jane because she put so much stock into being a "proper lady", but really, the whole thing was William's fault. At first, I liked William, for standing up to Jane's tormentor, Sally Biddle, but as the book progressed, my liking for William dwindled until it was completely nonexistent. Jane really shouldn't have listened to William's idea that she should become a "proper lady", but I can understand why she did. After all this, when she left England to be with him, I was cringing inwardly about what I thought for sure was to be her fate, so you can imagine how glad I was when he didn't show! All in all, a splendid book. I CANNOT wait until I am able to get my hands on the sequel, Boston Jane: Wilderness Days.
