'Heaven's River' acts as an epilogue to the initial trilogy, exploring the fate of the Original Bob and the other Bobs, along with new challenges in the Bobiverse universe. The book delves into parallel storylines with a focus on Bob, introducing new themes such as replicative drift, politics, and the question of the soul viewed through quantum mechanics and information theory. The writing style is described as sharp and witty, combining good concepts with fun and just the right amount of science.

Characters:

Characters are diverse, with a central focus on Bob One and the consequences of replicative drift affecting their identities.

Writing/Prose:

The writing is engaging, witty, and incorporates sci-fi references while tackling philosophical themes in a thoughtful manner.

Plot/Storyline:

The plot revolves around Bob One's quest to find Bender and delves into themes of replicative drift, leading to a unique character dynamic among the Bobs.

Setting:

The setting is primarily focused on a single planet, allowing for a deep dive into its alien cultures and the consequences of the Bobs' actions.

Pacing:

The pacing starts slow but improves significantly, especially in the latter part of the book.
The planet hung below, all blues and greens and twinkling lights of nascent cities. New Pav, we called it. The Pav’s name for their new home planet was slightly more poetic, but would still sound like...

Notes:

The book follows Bob One as he searches for Bender, who disappeared over a century ago.
Replicative drift causes newer Bobs to be quite different from the original Bobs.
The story mainly focuses on one plot line instead of the multiple threads of the earlier books.
The writing is filled with nerd references that only fans may catch, making it engaging for readers familiar with sci-fi culture.
There's a deeper exploration of the philosophy of artificial life and themes of individualism and the soul.
The book doesn't contain the space battles typical in earlier Bobiverse titles, but readers may not miss it after finishing.
The Prime Directive from Star Trek is discussed and examined in the context of the Bobs' actions.
Many readers noticed a shift in writing style, describing it as slower and more detailed compared to earlier books.
The author leaves the door open for more books in the series, creating anticipation for future stories.
Fans are encouraged to read the first three Bobiverse books before diving into this one for better comprehension of the plot and characters.

From The Publisher:

Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by best seller Dennis E. Taylor.

More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender's fate-whatever the cost.

But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob's descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore. Some of them oppose Bob's plan; others have plans of their own. The out-of-control moots are the least of the Bobiverse's problems.

Undaunted, Bob and his allies follow Bender's trail. But what they discover out in deep space is so unexpected and so complex that it could either save the universe-or pose an existential threat the likes of which the Bobiverse has never faced.

Not sure it was worth powering through

I loved the other Bobiverse books. So fun, so interesting, so goofy. This one bored the crap out me until about three-quarters of the way through. Then it got better but, ultimately, maybe wasn't worth the time it took to read.
