"Silver Borne" in the "Mercy Thompson" series by Patricia Briggs follows Mercy as she faces multiple challenges, from losing her home due to fae mischief to navigating her mate bond with Adam amidst pack issues. The plot is well-paced, with a focus on Mercy and Adam's relationship taking center stage, while also delving into the werewolf dynamics within the pack. The writing style captures the reader's attention with a mix of intrigue, romance, and paranormal elements, creating a comfortable yet engaging read akin to catching up with an old friend.

THE STARTER COMPLAINED AS IT TURNED OVER THEold Buick’s heavy engine. I felt a lot of sympathy for it since fighting outside my weight class was something I was intimately familiar with. I’m a coyote ...

From The Publisher:

Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, never knows what the day-or night-may bring. But in the fifth novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, she's about to learn that while some secrets are dangerous-those who seek them are just plain deadly…

Mercy is smart enough to realize that when it comes to the magical Fae, the less you know, the better. But you can't always get what you want. When she attempts to return a powerful Fae book she'd previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down.

It seems the book contains secret knowledge-and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands. And if that doesn't take enough of Mercy's attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side-leaving Mercy to cover for him, lest his own father declare Sam's life forfeit.

All in all, Mercy has had better days. And if she isn't careful, she might not have many more to live…

First Read Review:

Silver Borne is my favorite

Mercy Thompson book yet!

5+★! I wanted to read it slowly ... yeah, right! I read it in one sitting and just couldn't stop myself. Ugh! How I hate waitin', but this was WELL worth the wait!

Mercy's life follows the rule,

"Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean people aren't really out to get you". This book was focused on the fae and the wolf pack, so no Stefan, but, surprisingly, I didn't miss him.

I used to wonder if Mercy made the right choice picking Adam, now I'm positive she made the right choice. The moments between Mercy and Adam in the previous book warmed my heart, but these truly revealed her love for him (his for her was never in doubt).

I have always loved Sam and this book didn't disappoint in filling my need for more of him.

I can't say enough about this book and I can't form the right words for a coherent review through my excitement over it ... Read it and Enjoy! It's FANTASTIC!

Re-read March 2017 - I really just adore these books. And this one was so great. Samuel... aww, my heart breaks. And Adam too - I just love him, and it is good to see that he's got a vulnerable core inside that steel exterior.

And Bran, because Bran. The little glimpses, where you can see just how much he loves them, even though he can't afford to let it show... my heart breaks for Bran most of all. Yes, he's ruthless, but it is to keep everyone safe. How cold it must be, to have to be him, with his loveless mate that helps ensure everyone else is kept at arm's length.

The Mercedes Thompson books are, if nothing else, readable. The pages fly by, not necessarily because of suspense, but because Briggs' prose and pacing just flows so easily.

Mercedes is more sure of herself in this book; there's less "I need time to myself to think" and more taking charge, getting down to business. She had a few moments that reminded me of late-90s Anita Blake.

Ms. Briggs has an odd habit of turning her characters into mouth-pieces for Lit 101 professors. All of a sudden Mercedes will quote Shakespeare, and another character will quote it back to her, followed by a brief breakdown of what the quotes are about and how they apply to the current scene in the book. This is probably meant to give Mercedes et al depth, but it pulls me out of the book and feels awkward.

I generally like this series but I definitely prefer the Alpha and Omega one. But this book is a very nice addition to the series and I enjoyed it probably a little more than some other books in this series.

Mercy tries to find her place in a pack, which is not easy at all. Especially that someone is trying to use the pack's bond to make her quarrel with Adam. The situation is further complicated by Samuel who is trying to commit suicide. And in addition, someone is looking for a book that Mercy borrowed from an antiquarian.

This is one of the quietest books in this series so far. There is not much cruelty and death in it. It is not as dark as the previous ones. And I really like it. The plot is maybe a bit too uncomplicated but somehow it does not bother me. Mercy is exceptionally sensible this time and does not do very stupid things.

Only the idea of Samuel's sudden love somehow does not fit, but it's OK.

This book encouraged me to reach for another earlier than usual.
