Alpha & Omega #0.5 - A must-read for this series, as the first book doesn't make a lot of sense without this intro, which is a ... weird choice. Nevertheless, a good read.

World of the Lupi #3.5 - I read this after reading Lupi #4, and it was great to fill in Kai and Nathan's stories, as they were sort of... main characters that popped up out of nowhere. But this is a great short story, well worth a read.

I picked this up for Patricia Briggs' prequel to the Alpha & Omega series. Most of the paranormal romance genre is based on the following conflict: supernatural alpha male meets less powerful woman, decides she is his mate, sweeps her off her feet. The woman usually influences events by playing on the man's feelings for her. Briggs turns this dynamic on its side by making Anna an Omega wolf, neither dominant nor submissive but with the ability to calm dominant werewolves. While it's interesting that Briggs has both acknowledged and found a way to subvert the dominant-submissive binary, she doesn't have a lot of room to explore it in this short story. I expect more character development from Briggs; maybe she tried to do too much with too little space. That said, I will read the rest of the books in the series.
