Who Would Like This Book:

This book is a treat for anyone who loves Regency romances with a twist of adventure and mystery. It's fast-paced and full of witty banter, featuring a hero who uses humor as his armor and a smart, independent heroine who’s perfectly capable of rescuing herself (and him, too). If you like unconventional heroines, forced proximity, and charming, banter-filled road trip dynamics, you'll have a lot of fun following Colin and Madeleine as they unravel the tangled plot against them. Fans of Lisa Kleypas and Tessa Dare will probably feel right at home here.

Who May Not Like This Book:

Not every romance reader will swoon - if you’re looking for deep, angsty emotion or super-steamy scenes, this one is a little lighter and sometimes the romance can feel secondary to the mystery. The plot has plenty of twists, but a few readers found it convoluted or overly busy, and some wished the emotional connection between the main couple had been more satisfying or the secondary love triangle plot less distracting. If you need a super-broody hero or hate love triangles, you might want to look elsewhere.

A witty, energetic historical romance with a side of adventure and mystery - perfect if you want a fun, unconventional romp, even if the romance itself isn’t super intense.

A rescued rogue . . .

Scandal has rocked the city of London. Colin Eversea, a handsome, reckless unapologetic rogue is sentenced to hang for murder and, inconveniently for him, the only witness to the crime disappears. Then again, throughout history, the Everseas have always managed to cheat fate in style: Colin is snatched from the gallows by a beautiful, clever mercenary.

A captivating captor. . .

Cool-headed, daring Madeleine Greenway is immune to Colin's vaunted charm. Her mission is not to rescue Colin but to kidnap him, and to be paid handsomely for it. But when it becomes clear that whoever wants Colin alive wants Madeline dead, the two become uneasy allies in a deadly race for truth. Together, they'll face great danger-and a passion neither can resist.

Regencyfest 2/2016: JAL is a good author, the other PG I read was a delight. This was too plotty, too annoying, COLIN EVERSEA too cheeky and rakish. The writing is good. I'll keep going. Took me way to long to get through this though.
