Who Would Like This Book:
If you're in the mood for grimdark fantasy with a ruthless anti-hero, King of Thorns absolutely delivers. Jorg is a complicated and often unsettling protagonist, but his evolution across timelines keeps you glued to the page. Expect twisty plots, sharp writing, jaw-dropping world-building, layered characters, and a fresh mix of post-apocalyptic and medieval vibes. If you enjoy stories that challenge standard fantasy tropes, love immersive (and sometimes shocking) adventures, or are already a fan of The Broken Empire series, you’ll have a blast with this sequel.
Who May Not Like This Book:
Some readers found King of Thorns hard to follow due to its dual timelines and frequent flashbacks. Jorg's unapologetically violent and morally gray nature might be too much for those who prefer more traditional heroes. The narrative includes graphic scenes - especially one involving a dog - that can be distressing if you're sensitive to violence or cruelty. If you're hoping for a lighter fantasy or can't connect with a protagonist you may not even want to like, this might not be your cup of tea.
About:

The story follows Jorg Ancrath, who at the age of fourteen, takes his uncle's throne and sets his sights on becoming the emperor. Facing challenges from rival princes, necromancers, and his own inner demons, Jorg navigates through a dark and twisted world filled with violence and ambition. The narrative unfolds through a dual timeline, blending Jorg's present struggles with flashbacks that reveal his past, creating a complex and engaging storytelling style that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.
Lawrence expertly crafts a tale where morality is blurred, and the line between hero and villain is constantly challenged. Jorg's character development shines as he matures and evolves, showing glimpses of growth while still maintaining his ruthless and unpredictable nature. The worldbuilding expands, introducing new elements that add depth to the universe, while the prose is powerful, poetic, and evocative, capturing the essence of a dark and gritty fantasy world.

I just can't follow what's happening in the story. I had the same problem with the first book. As much as it pains me, I think this author just isn't for me.
Great continuation of the trilogy.
