Who Would Like This Book:
If you love your historical romance dark, dramatic, and packed with emotion, "The Highlander" is a standout. You get a brooding Scottish laird with a heart of gold, a heroine clawing her way toward freedom and healing, and enough sizzling chemistry to light up the Highlands. What really shines is the way both main characters are survivors - deeply scarred, but finding solace and strength in each other. Fans of protective, tortured heroes and strong, resilient heroines will find this book especially satisfying - and if you like your romance with a side of high-stakes secrets and found family vibes, you'll eat this up.
Who May Not Like This Book:
This book isn’t all misty moors and stolen glances - it goes deep into some very heavy topics. There’s significant content around abuse and trauma, including attempted sexual assault (not by the hero), which may be too much for some readers. If you prefer your romances light, or get annoyed by over-the-top alpha behavior, emotional angst, or plotlines driven by extreme past trauma, you might find parts of this story overwhelming or frustrating. Some also found the pacing a little bumpy and had issues with certain historical or colonial aspects.

About the Author:
Kerrigan Byrne has done many things to pay the bills, from law enforcement to belly dance instructor. Now she's finally able to have the career she'd decided upon at thirteen when she announced to her very skeptical family that she was going to "grow up to be a romance novelist." Whether she's writing about Celtic Druids, Victorian bad boys, or brash Irish FBI Agents, Kerrigan uses her borderline-obsessive passion for history, her extensive Celtic ancestry, and her love of Shakespeare in almost every story.
Her novels with St. Martin's Press include THE HIGHWAYMAN and THE HUNTER.
She lives at the base of the Rocky Mountains with her handsome husband and three lovely teenage girls, but dreams of settling on the Pacific Coast.
