Who May Not Like This Book:
Not everyone clicked with the quirky, elderly sleuths. Some readers found the plot a bit too convoluted or unrealistic, with too many characters and red herrings to keep track of, and felt that the outrageous situations required a hefty suspension of disbelief. A handful took issue with the portrayal of older adults and certain cultural stereotypes, or found the pacing and focus on character moments at odds with their expectations for a traditional whodunit. So, if you prefer your mysteries gritty, tightly plotted, or entirely focused on the crime, this cozy romp may not be your style.

i think it was probably a good book but i just didnt find it all that gripping. i think its just not my genre
I really liked the mix of humour and mystery in this one. The characters feel like real people you could meet in a small town, and the way they solve things together is just fun. The balance between jokes, danger, and friendship makes it stand out. It never gets too heavy, even when the stakes go up, and that makes it a very easy and enjoyable read. If you like mysteries with charm and personality, this one delivers.
Fastest I’ve read a book this length in only 6-days, so I definitely liked it and had fun reading and guessing. While I enjoyed it, at times it felt a bit sluggish and overall maybe a tad too long. I like this style of whodunnit / murder mystery, but looking for something much more mind-blowing in this vein… so open to suggestions. Not looking for gore or technical forensic stuff though.
I loved the humor and the relationships of the characters. The mystery was well-written, too.
3 stars. not quite what i look for in a murder mystery but overall it was an enjoyable read :)
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Some lovely, funny characters involved.
So pretentious
Excellent mystery. Keeps you guessing until the end. Amazing reveal when you find out who did it.
The characters are quirky, well developed and really engaging. The setting is unique as it's a luxury retirement community. There are tons of red herrings and it is very clever.
I laughed so much when I read this book. Some of the conversations and misunderstandings had me in stitches.
I enjoyed this read. I liked the idea of a group of elderly people working together to solve the murders - like an oldf fashioned sleuth read, only with a group of older people. I liked learning a bit about the various characters - the fact that its written like a diary, it feels like I'm reading from a group of old friends. I did get a little confused about who was who, there are quite a few names and indeed nicknames covered but I don't think you have to follow every last detail precisely to get entertainment from the book. As ever, I appreciated the very short chapters - it didn't feel like much of a chore to keep reading, as I knew there'd only be perhaps 5 or 10 pages per chapter and even though its quite long pagination wise, I managed to finish it in 4 days (though I'm on holiday, so I've had more time to read compared to when I'm at work). This makes a good escapist type read and I would recommend it, yes, although if your keen on baked goods then this read may leave you with a bit of an appetite, it does have to be said! Oh and also, I found it amusing that the author (Pointless's Richard Osman) references very British supermarkets like Waitrose and Lidl. I believe this book has been sold overseas - I wonder if they replace such references to wherever is the same sort of supermarket in the foreign markets? no idea but I'd recommend this book anyway.
I am so bored. Could not care less about these characters.
