Who Would Like This Book:
If you love mafia romance with deliciously slow-burn chemistry, The Sweetest Oblivion brings all the heat and tension. The dual POV lets readers get in both main characters' heads and adds depth to their misunderstandings and longing. The family dynamics are lively (extra points for the hilarious nonna and mom), and the story nails that forbidden romance vibe while keeping things fresh. This is a great pick for romance fans who enjoy possessive, morally grey heroes, angst, and worlds where the stakes feel high - and who like their romance spicy but with genuine emotional development.
Who May Not Like This Book:
This book won't be for everyone. If you find mafia romance or arranged marriage tropes problematic, this isn't the one for you. Some readers were frustrated with the heroine's decisions and internal monologue or weren't sold on the miscommunication and lack of angst. The hero’s possessiveness (and occasional hypocrisy) can border on toxic, and if you prefer your romances free of stereotypes or controlling male leads, you’ll want to skip this. Lastly, those expecting non-stop action over family dinners or more plot-driven stories might not find enough excitement outside the romance.

From The Publisher:
She's a romantic at heart, living in the most unromantic of worlds . . .Nicknamed Sweet Abelli for her docile nature, Elena smiles on cue and has a charming response for everything. She's the favored daughter, the perfect mafia principessa . . . or was. Now, all she can see in the mirror's reflection is blood staining her hands like crimson paint. They say first impressions are everything . . .In the murky waters of New York's underworld, Elena's sister is arranged to marry Nicolas Russo. A Made Man, a boss, a cheat-even measured against mafia standards. His reputation stretches far and wide and is darker than his black suits and ties. After his and Elena's first encounter ends with an accidental glare on her part, she realizes he's just as rude as he is handsome. She doesn't like the man or anything he stands for, though that doesn't stop her heart from pattering like rain against glass when he's near, nor the shiver that ghosts down her spine at the sound of his voice. And he's always near. Telling her what to do. Making her feel hotter than any future brother-in-law should. Elena may be the Sweet Abelli on the outside, but she's beginning to learn she has a taste for the darkness, for rough hands, cigarettes, and whiskey-colored eyes. Having already escaped one scandal, however, she can hardly afford to be swept up in another.Besides, even if he were hers, everyone knows you don't fall in love with a Made Man . . . right? This is a standalone forbidden romance.

I mean it was alright...
Największy minus: 4/5 fabuły opiera się na miscominication trope
I don’t hate much. I’m not a hater. But this book..
THIS book.. I can’t even talk about it.
3⭐️
I really wanted to love this book but I couldn’t. The beginning was good and I was hooked from the first chapter but then it just got repetitive. The middle of this book was…in my opinion really boring. The ending redeemed the rating a bit but not for more than three stars.
I did not like Elena at all. I never expect feminism in a book like this but some of her lines were just too much. For example:
“You like it when men disrespect you? Or maybe you just like to get them all worked up, panting after you. So, which one is it?”
I was a slut or a tease.
“Both.”
How am I expected to like her when she literally says she “wants men to disrespect her”. Throughout the whole book she had absolutely no agency and I kept waiting for her to change but she never did. This is a line from the last chapter of the book:
“As my train dragged across the pavement and through all kinds of dirt and grime, I was chastising myself for not knowing how to tell this man no a little better.”
She never told him no. Ever
Nico was just bland. I could talk about how misogynistic he was but honestly that was to be expected and I usually don’t mind it. My problem with him was that he was just such a stereotypical mafia boss and it felt like he didn’t have a personality.
Overall, the book was okay but it just wasn’t for me. I can’t stand slow pacing or “slow-burn” and I hate the misunderstanding trope even more. This book was all of that.
If I could it would be a ZERO… let me not ….. I dropped this…. I should’ve know when it was mafia Romance I wasn’t going to like it at all
I absolutely loved the way Nico is obsessed with Elena
man THIS GUY STINKS. so bossy, jesus, man turn off the voice box already, DUHHHH
