Who Would Like This Book:

Rick Riordan wraps up the epic Heroes of Olympus saga with plenty of action, witty humor, and a heartfelt focus on friendship and identity. The book juggles a diverse cast of demigods (some old favorites, some new faces), taking readers through quests packed with Greek and Roman mythology and clever modern twists. If you love mythological adventures, character-driven teamwork, and a snarky sense of humor - especially if you’ve grown up with Percy Jackson - you’ll likely find this a thrilling (and emotional!) farewell. Middle grade and YA readers, as well as anyone who geeks out over mythology, will feel right at home.

Who May Not Like This Book:

Some readers felt a bit let down by the finale, wishing for a bigger final battle or more page time for Percy and Annabeth. The rotating points of view can get a little overwhelming, and the huge cast sometimes makes it hard to deeply connect with everyone. Others found the formulaic quest structure repetitive or thought the book played it too safe with its "everyone gets a happy ending" vibe. If you prefer tighter focus, darker consequences, or aren't into ensemble casts, this might not hit all your marks.

A fun, fast-paced conclusion packed with heart and humor, though it doesn’t quite reach the emotional heights of earlier installments. Fans of the series should still find plenty to love - and will definitely need some tissues for the goodbye.

Setting:

The varied settings enhance the mythological richness of the story, grounding fantastical elements in recognizable locations while exploring themes of unity.

Pacing:

The pacing is generally swift, filled with action but criticized for lacking depth in certain climactic moments, resulting in a rushed feel during the resolution.
He even had that old-man smell – mothballs and chicken soup. How was that possible? He’d gone from sixteen to seventy-five in a matter of seconds, but the old-man smell happened instantly, like Boom. ...

From The Publisher:

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen - all of them - and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood, the blood of Olympus, in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it might be able to stop a war between the two camps. The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east.

The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

Rereading The Blood of Olympus (really, the entire Percy Jackson Series) as an adult was one of the best decisions I've made this year. This finale was everything I wanted it to be and more. Riordan has a truly unmatched gift for weaving humor, heart, action, and mythological madness into one epic, unforgettable journey.

This final installment had me on the edge of my seat. The pacing? Impeccable. The character arcs? So deeply satisfying. Witnessing how far these demigods have come, how much they've grown, and how tightly their friendships have formed is emotional in the best ways. I laughed, I teared up, I cheered out loud. Each character brought something essential to the table, and the rotating perspectives kept everything feeling fresh and dynamic.

What makes this series stand out, especially as an adult revisiting it, is how timeless and powerful the messages are. Themes of identity, sacrifice, belonging, and resilience resonate even more deeply now, and I found myself appreciating just how much Riordan respects his readers, regardless of age.

The ending stuck the landing. It wrapped up the series beautifully, while still leaving room for the stories—and the characters—to continue in our hearts and imaginations. This isn't just a great middle-grade series; it's one of the most joyful, heartfelt, and well-crafted series I've ever read.

If you've ever loved mythology, if you've ever wanted to feel life part of a team that faces the impossible together, or if you want a series that reminds you of the power of friendship and bravery, The Heroes of Olympus is it! I'm beyond grateful I returned to this world. I will be screaming from the rooftops: READ THIS SERIES!

I loved seeing Nico's POV and how he's slowly learning to accept love and friendship. I think his (and Leo's) POV were the best in the book. I loved the story, but there were too many questions left unanswered for it to be the "end" of the series. I know the characters appear in later books, but I wish the story was more concluded for the last book in a series. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the series and book, but I am deducting half a star for the unanswered questions I have. I feel like they were unanswered to make the reader continue reading the author's other series (unlike the PJ series which concluded nicely, but still left room for Percy's later adventures - i.e. you could stop there and feel like you're not missing anything which can't be said about the HOO series)

OHMIGOSH MY FEELS ARE MAKING ME HYPERVENTILATE! I am going to miss Percy and the gang soooooo much! I suppose we'll hear from them again when Rick "Troll" Riordan writes the Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles crossover, but that's not even a concrete promise.

Let me add Nico, Reyna, Hazel, Frank, Leo, Calypso, Piper, and Jason to the list of people who Rick needs to give peace to!!

Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors-and this is one of my favorite series by him. I love the way he seamlessly weaves all the mini-battles together, leading up to the battle at the end.
