Who Would Like This Book:

Looking for a seriously spooky paranormal adventure with a dash of wit and lots of character depth? "Darkhouse" is right up your alley. The story follows Perry, a relatable and perfectly imperfect 22-year-old, and the mysterious Dex as they accidentally become partners in ghost-hunting. There’s real suspense, bantery humor, slow-burn chemistry, and genuine thrills set against eerie settings like haunted lighthouses. Fans of urban fantasy, ghost stories, and series with strong, flawed leads (think X-Files meets Supernatural with more awkwardness and angst) will eat this up - especially if you like your horror stories mixed with complicated feelings and messy pasts.

Who May Not Like This Book:

Some readers have major qualms with how sensitive topics like self-harm and victim-blaming are handled - especially since they’re addressed rather casually and sometimes problematically. If those are emotional triggers or important issues for you, this one may not be a good fit. Others found the pacing uneven, with the buildup often outweighing the actual scares, slow plot advancement, or too much inner monologue. And if you want your leads instantly likable or your romance front and center, be warned: both Dex and Perry are flawed, frustrating, and the slow-burn romance doesn’t pay off right away.

Creepy, quirky, and character-driven, "Darkhouse" delivers slow-burning scares and lots of drama - though it fumbles some sensitive subjects. A great pick for fans of offbeat ghost stories and slow-building series, but approach with care if you’re sensitive to certain topics.

With all the vampire, werewolf and faerie books out there, it's easy to become numb to all things supernatural. The antidote? About the Author:

Karina Halle is a bit of an enigma. A rock music journalist by day, she travels the earth searching for the next big metal/rock band to fall in love with. By night, she can be found writing her much-loved Experiment in Terror Series and having conversations with Perry and Dex in her head. Karina cur-rently resides in Vancouver's West End and can often be found with a bot-tle of wine, lis-ten-ing to her music a bit too loudly. She wishes she could see ghosts like her characters do, but then again, perhaps they don't like rock n' roll.
