Who Would Like This Book:
Dive into a dark, sweeping medieval romance packed with passion, betrayal, and lots of drama! Brenda Joyce crafts a vivid, gritty world set against the Norman conquest, where love battles against loyalty and survival. If you love your historicals raw, angsty, and unapologetically intense - with complex, deeply flawed characters and a heroine who has to fight for every scrap of happiness - this one's for you. Perfect for fans of bodice rippers and those who appreciate epic, high-stakes romance.
Who May Not Like This Book:
If you're uncomfortable with explicit content, themes of dubious consent, cheating, or harsh, sometimes brutal character behavior - including a hero who is more villain than valiant - this may not be your cup of tea. Readers who prefer gentle, swoony heroes or low-angst romance might find the story too dark, the era's brutality overwhelming, or the characters hard to root for. Beware: this is not a sanitized, feel-good love story.

From The Publisher:
Like a pagan god, Rolfe the Relentless rode into Castle Aelfgar to claim it as his prize-and Lady Alice as his bride. Lauded for his bravery in France, in England he was the hated enemy. Once ensconced in his new domain, Rolfe became determined to tame the Saxon beauty Ceidre, Alice's illegitimate sister, whose spirit and sensuality make him risk treason to have her-not Lady Alice-in his bed…
Mysterious and seductive, she was no lady but a spy for the rebel cause of her noble half brothers. Refusing to bow to this arrogant warrior who ignited her forbidden passion, Ceidre was swept into a dangerous liaison tied to the fate of England and kings. Yet with his kisses on her lips, his skillful hands on her body, she would have to struggle not to surrender to… The Conqueror.

The story starts with the hero trying to rape the heroine, and the only thing that stops him are not the cries of the heroine but the information that she is a relative of his enemy, so he would have serious problems if he carried out his intentions. This happens in the first chapter. And since I don't believe that a rapist is suitable material for a romantic hero, I decided that I can completely skip this book.
