Who May Not Like This Book:

Some readers found the plot a bit too sensational or the ending hard to believe. If you prefer tightly plausible mysteries or deeply developed main characters from the get-go, you might be frustrated by some far-fetched twists and a focus on the case over character depth. The fragmented narrative style - jumping between formats and timeframes - also isn’t everyone's cup of tea. And if you dislike social media commentary as part of your fiction, the frequent Twitter and Facebook inserts may pull you out of the story.

A page-turning, cleverly constructed mystery packed with red herrings and modern flair - great for thriller lovers, as long as you don't mind a few over-the-top twists and some unconventional storytelling.

From The Publisher:

INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

A brilliantly plotted psychological crime novel about a missing child and the scandal that erupts in the aftermath with a shocking twist

They know who did it. Perhaps not consciously. Perhaps not yet. But they know.

When eight-year-old Daisy Mason vanishes from her family's Oxford home during a costume party, Detective Inspector Adam Fawley knows that nine times out of ten, the offender is someone close to home. And Daisy's family is certainly strange-her mother is obsessed with keeping up appearances, while her father is cold and defensive under questioning. And then there's Daisy's little brother, so withdrawn and uncommunicative . . .

DI Fawley works against the clock to find any trace of the little girl, but it's as if she disappeared into thin air-no one saw anything; no one knows anything. But everyone has an opinion, and everyone, it seems, has a secret to conceal.

With a story that feels all too real, Close to Home is the best kind of suspense-the kind that sends chills down your spine and keeps you up late at night, thrilled and terrified.

It Was OK

I've read the 4th book first in the series (thought it was the 3rd) and in closer thought I think it was a 4.5 stars. I was eager and hopeful to start from the beginning but this didn't quite make me as invested or determined to figure out what happened. It was still enjoyable and a good crime novel, just wasn't as great as the 4th. But I'm very happy to have more books to read in this series
