Given the premise of the series, I had to take it for what it was. A warped, dystopian version of "The Bachelor." Through the series, the MC makes cringe worthy decisions in her love life, which wouldn't be that large of an annoyance, except the novel is primarily romance and little else. I can appreciate romance--so this wasn't a huge issue for me, but if you like your love stories slipped in like subtle sideplots, this story isn't for you. Primarily, I was expecting some kind of plan/war between the evil rebels and the MC's allies. But, nothing really happened there. I mean, the final attack was large, but I don't recall a lasting resolution or plan for the future in that direction. Anything decided was vague. The best asset this series has is its ability to make you curious. It's an interesting story world.

Like the first two books in this series, this is a re-read. Although I think that Aspen is still a little manipulative in the beginning, he is redeemed as the book progresses. I feel that if America was more straightforward with Maxon from the start after Aspen's arrival at the palace, there would have been a lot fewer misunderstandings in their relationship.
