Mercy Thompson series, you'll find it different enough to intrigue you yet similar enough to fill the void when you are waiting for the next Mercy book to be released (or visa versa).
When we first meet Anna Latham, she has just read a news article and realizes she knows who caused the death of a young boy. After fretting over whether or not she should bother the Marrock, she dials his number and informs him of the situation. He sends his son, Charles, to investigate.
When these two meet it is like kismet; they are both surprised by their reaction to the other. Anna has been mistreated by her pack leader after being turned without her permission, which is forbidden, and was forced to become submissive when she is anything but. Charles, his father's enforcer, has become slightly hardened over the years, but feels his frustration fade away in her presence.
I cannot say often enough how much I love this series. This is my first time re-reading it and I am beginning to wonder why I waited so long. Though much of their story has stuck with me over the years, I am really enjoying revisiting their first days together.

I keep coming back to this one. A mesmerizing romance, with character development aplenty. It's told from two perspectives, and all the more richer for it.
Every time I read it, I notice new fun details. Like how Charles processes most emotions thru thinking what his father and brother would think about it. Or how every decision that Anna makes is informed by her current abusive situation, and yet she is still strong and trying to make the best of it and making active decisions.
Bungling exposition, flat emotionally, and how dare they draw Charles not handsomely. But it's readable.
