Having worked in IT for 37 years, I’ve seen the progress from old, slow, basic computers, to very powerful, fast, supercomputers. We are at a very interesting stage in the evolution of computing, and it is at the point where it can start to mimic human intelligence, i.e. artificial intelligence, or A.I.

"A Thousand Brains" is a book written by Jeff Hawkins (2021), the founder of Numenta, a company that develops technology inspired by the principles of the neocortex, the part of the brain responsible for perception, action, and cognitive function. The book describes the theory of how the neocortex processes information and how this can be applied to build intelligent machines. It also presents the concept of "hierarchical temporal memory" (HTM), which is a neural network architecture that Numenta has developed to mimic the function of the neocortex. One of Financial Times best books of 2021.

This book was very informative about the current state of A.I., and how we as humans can try to preserve our knowledge for future generations…and even after our Sun eventually destroys the Earth!
